Description

Couple with a lovely private ranch in Basalt CO, outside of Aspen, is looking for a skilled Caretaker.   Horses and gardens are for family use - not a commercial farm.   Some other livestock and pets to oversee.   Owners need a take-charge person to handle maintenance and animals.   Caretaker takes responsibility for the property while the owners are away.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure horses are well-cared for; arrange vets, care for tack, feeding. This requires someone with a history of working around horses.   Hire support as needed.
  • Routine and preventative maintenance of mechanical systems – HVAC, water, etc.
  • Repairs around the farm and within the home.
  • Arrange and supervise contractors and vendors, working with them to monitor time and work methods; understand repairs. Work is to be done by best practice, and with long-term planning and fixes.
  • Care for other animals.
  • Vehicle maintenance – including farm equipment/vehicles and principal’s personal vehicles. Ensure all are well-maintained, wash principal’s personal vehicles after or before use.
  • Hands-on and oversee seasonal gardens.
  • Seasonal snow removal.
  • Hire, train, schedule and supervise seasonal and part-time employees and contractors.
  • Take overall responsibility for the property when principals are away.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge and experience with horses
  • Basic trade skills for minor repairs and overseeing contractors

Experience Requirements

  • Experience in caring for horses
  • Trades skill sets for minor repairs and vehicle maintenance
  • Able to legally work in the U.S.
  • Experience in a similar position, including 5+ years working in a farm environment and around horses.
  • Experience in northern climates, winters, and high-altitude experience is preferred.
  • Excellent English communication.
  • Physically fit to perform job duties, to include: lift/carry, use of ladders and tools, etc.
  • Valid and clean driver license.
  • Clean background (pre-employment background check)
