Description
SoMar Farms is a grass fed beef ranching operation with property situated between Petaluma and Tomales in Northern California. We aim to improve the rangelands here through proper grazing practices and land restoration efforts. Our land stewardship work includes riparian restoration projects, carbon farming efforts, improving soil health and biodiversity, and controlling invasive and noxious plants. We’re working to bring the land to its full potential and restore the local ecosystem while supporting responsible local agriculture.
We are looking to add a hardworking and dedicated member to our team who can lead our land maintenance and stewardship efforts. Work will include leading our restoration work on the ground, planning and managing projects, seeking out grant opportunities, and maintaining and improving our ranch infrastructure.

Responsibilities
This position will report to and work directly with the property manager. Many hours will be spent working solo without supervision, so applicants must be motivated, hardworking, responsible, reliable, and available on a consistent basis. The Land Manager will be responsible for the supervision and management of staff, and will also lead volunteers and contractors to complete projects.
Qualifications
This position requires excellent communication and organizational skills. A qualified candidate must be self-driven and motivated towards success.
The Land Manager position also requires a lot of physical work and applicants must be able to work long days outdoors performing physical labor; sometimes lifting up to 70 pounds, bending over, squatting, hauling, and hiking.
Experience Requirements
Education and experience within the fields of sustainable agriculture, rangeland management, agroecology, ranching, and/or farming is beneficial. Preference will be given to candidates who are driven to succeed and evolve with the position.
Applicants must be comfortable using tools and running light and heavy machinery. Though some training is available, experience using and maintaining power tools and heavy machinery is preferred.

Benefits
This is a full time position. Wage will depend on experience and qualifications, and housing is available. A salaried position and additional benefits may be extended to qualified candidates, we are looking to establish a long term position and meet the needs of the right person for the job.
