
Description
Work as a team on our 100% grass-fed, rotationally grazed dairy and grass-finished beef operation, which also includes free-range chickens and pastured poultry.
We require someone who will take ownership of duties, work in all types of weather, self-motivated, pays strong attention to detail, ambitious, eager and willing to learn, dependable, positive attitude, and strong work ethic. These are long days in all kinds of weather conditions. The day ends when the work is completed, and all the animals are cared for.
Internship is for six months. Starting date is flexible.
Farm or Business Description
Approximately 75 head herd rotational grazing herdshare dairy farm and poultry operation. We produce raw dairy products (fluid milk, butter, and cream), 100% grass-fed/finished beef, free-range chicken eggs, pastured poultry, and honey as some of our farm products. Our farming practices do not use herbicides or pesticides.
Also on the farm is a portable sawmill which allows us to produce garden stakes and building materials for farm infrastructure projects.
We are rapidly expanding and have the opportunity to grow.
Responsibilities
- Fence building (permanent and temporary)
- Mowing with ATV
- Work outdoors in all types of weather
- Working with cattle (dairy and beef)
- Rotational grazing
- Assisting with calving and medical as needed
- Milking
- Working with poultry
- Moving poultry tractors daily on pasture
- Processing and packaging broilers
- Collecting, washing, and packaging eggs
- Feeding and watering broilers and layers
- Marketing
- Assisting with local seasonal farmer’s markets
- Planning/packing for markets
- Interacting with customers for sales and answering questions
- Delivery of farm products to retail store customers
- Assist with maintenance and farm building construction
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs repeatedly
- No smoking or vaping allowed on the farm property or in vehicles (no tobacco use of any kind)
- Good customer interaction skills
- Willing and able to make decisions in a fluid working environment
- If qualified, run farm equipment such as tractors, loaders, etc, we will add duties such as mowing, seeding and haying
- Work week is 5-6 days/week. Some Sunday work is required on rotation to feed/water poultry.
Qualifications
Strong desire to farm, willing to work hard in all weather conditions, take pride in your work and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to pass a drug test if requested
- Driver’s License with clean driving record
- No peanut allergies as we have peanuts or peanut products in several feeds and no way to accommodate
- No tobacco use of any kind or vaping on farm property, in farm vehicles, or housing
Experience Requirements
Experience with farm animals and equipment is beneficial but not necessary.
Educational Requirements
None needed. Must speak, read, and write English.
Benefits
$100/week stipend, housing, milk and eggs provided with discounts on beef and poultry.
We can accommodate a couple who wish to intern together. Both will need to pull equal duties. Work days may not always be the same. We cannot accommodate child care.
Full-time permanent positions also available for experienced applicants.
