Key Responsibilities:
Irrigation Maintenance & Operation
Manage, maintain, and repair irrigation systems. Monitor water usage, troubleshoot issues, and
Ensure proper water distribution for optimal crop growth.
General Farm Labor
Assist with various farm duties, including planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops. Participate in field preparation and maintenance tasks as needed.
Grain Hauling & CDL Truck Driving
Operate trucks (CDL encouraged) for grain hauling. Transport harvested crops to storage
facilities or local grain elevators. Ensure safe and efficient loading and unloading.
Tractor and Implement Operation
Operate tractors and agricultural implements for tilling, planting, harvesting, and other fieldwork.
Assist in maintaining equipment to ensure peak performance.
Truck, Tractor, and Implement Maintenance
Assist in maintaining equipment year-round to operate with peak performance.
Agronomy Support
Assist with crop management and monitoring of plant health, soil conditions, and pest control.
Work closely with the farm management team to implement agronomic practices that optimize
crop yield.
Physical Labor
Perform physical tasks such as lifting, walking long distances, and other general farm duties that
require a strong work ethic and the ability to work in various weather conditions.

About Us
We are a large-scale, family-owned crop operation in Janesville, WI, managing 5,000 acres of farmland. We are a parallel operation growing both organic crops as well as conventional. At Hughes Farms, we are committed to modern farming practices, high-quality crop production, and environmental stewardship. Our operation focuses on sustainable practices while maintaining the highest standards in efficiency and productivity. We are currently looking for a dedicated and hardworking Agricultural Technician to join our team. This is a multifaceted role that will involve irrigation maintenance and operation, grain hauling, equipment operation, general farm labor, and agronomy support.
Responsibilities
Operate Equipment Safely and Efficiently: Use machinery such as, but not limited to, forklifts, mowers, loaders, ATVs, semi-tractors, grain carts, and soil finishers, tractors with
precision and care.
Perform Field Operations: Carry out essential fieldwork, including tilling, planting, harvesting, and operating field equipment as needed.
Service and Maintain Equipment: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on farm machinery; coordinate with Tim to order necessary parts and maintain service records.
Pivot Irrigation Management: Oversee the operation and positioning of pivot irrigation systems, monitor water usage and soil moisture levels, address maintenance issues as they arise, and ensure irrigation parts inventory is well-stocked and up to date.
Irrigation System Maintenance: Service irrigators seasonally by inspecting gearboxes, changing oil, checking tire pressure, greasing pivots, and ensuring proper function of all components.
Maintain Parts and Materials: Organize and stock parts for both general farm equipment and irrigation systems; keep the parts room clean and inventory up-to-date.
Clean and Detail Equipment: Regularly clean semi-trucks, trailers, cabs, pick-up trucks and other machinery; keep the machine shed swept and organized.
Data Entry and Recordkeeping: Accurately log maintenance records, material usage, and task completion in spreadsheets or designated systems.
Maintain Organized Work Areas: Ensure the shop, parts room, and pickup trucks remain clean, well-stocked, and organized.
Learn and Utilize Technology: Learn and effectively use technology integrated in tractors, irrigation systems, and other equipment to improve precision and efficiency.
Problem-Solving and Innovation: Troubleshoot mechanical issues, research solutions, and suggest process improvements to enhance farm efficiency.

Machine operating experience
Basic knowledge on machinery parts, components, and maintenance
Basic knowledge of cropping processes
Eagerness to learn new things
Ability to be flexible with schedules/tasks based on weather
Ability to be collaborative with team members
Experience Requirements
Experience
Previous farm or agricultural experience is preferred but not required.
A willingness to learn and a strong work ethic are key.
License
Must have a driver's license and truck driving experience.
Physical Ability conditions.
Must be able to walk, lift heavy objects (at least 50 lbs), and perform physical labor in outdoor conditions.
Equipment Operation
Experience with tractors, trucks, and other farm equipment is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
Knowledge of Irrigation Systems
Familiarity with irrigation systems and maintenance is preferred, but we are willing to train.
Positive Attitude & Teamwork
Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a positive, efficient work environment.
Effective communication skills are required.

Hourly Wage: $20-30 Depending on skills and experience
