Description
Responsible for day-to-day care of all cattle- including feeding, bedding, water management, & checking health of herd. Minor treatment of illness or injury in cattle. Monitor and assist during calving season including tagging and vaccinating. Making decisions on cattle diets and pasture rotation. Feed rations are made on the farm and completed by the herd manager. Assistance in hay production. Maintain/ repair fencing and basic facility maintenance. Record keeping where pertaining to herd. Assist in clipping/ preparation of sale cattle, assist clients with questions after sale. Haul cattle as needed for sale clients and freezer beef. Participate in breeding season: including bull choice, AI, synch protocols & heat detection. Experience in AI would be ideal but willing to send to school once proven employee. Basic maintenance of cattle farm equipment, including John Deere tractors, skid steer, mowers etc. Keep facilities in proper shape, including mowing.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Most "paperwork" will be completed by myself regarding advertisements, client relations and communication with AAA.
Qualifications
Experience in either show or production beef cattle operations
Knowledge of standard cattle health needs and management
Experience in fence repair/ building both single wire and high tensile
Experience with farm equipment a plus
Experience in hay production a plus but not required
Self-starter and able to work solo for large portions of time each day.
