Calf Care Specialist

Under general supervision, assumes the responsibility of the feeding and wellbeing of calves.

• Follow all farm protocols for proper feeding and upkeep to obtain the best care for our cows
• Follows approved sanitation, preparation, and clean-up procedures for calves, equipment, and facilities.
• Follow all farm protocols for feeding calves
• Exercises special care in observing, recording, and reporting abnormal behavior.
• Administers and applies medication as directed.
• Update feeding board as necessary.
• Requests new supplies as needed.
• Performs routine maintenance chores as requested
• Performs other chores associated with calf care and farm sanitation such as bedding hutches, cleaning exterior of bulk tank, cleaning milk house, cleaning bottle holders, stock and clean med room, cleaning the bathroom, calf hutch sanitation.

• Experience that demonstrates general knowledge of caring for calves.
• Have reliable transportation to be on time and ready to work.
• Good work ethic and attitude.

• Previous experience with dairy cattle preferred.
• Knowledge of calf health a plus.

High School graduate preferred.

• Knowledge of handling and working with animals
• Ability to lift or transport 50 pounds and to stand on feet for long periods of time.
• Ability to withstand noise, dust, odors, fumes, temperature, and climate extremes.
• Ability to cooperate with coworkers in all details contributing to the milking and dairy operation.
• Ability to follow written and oral directions
• A high school diploma is preferred. Helpful job skills include active listening, ability to work without supervision, good critical thinking skills, knowledge of farming, good communication skills, and ability to problem-solve.
