Description

We’re hiring for our Portland/Lake Oswego farm crew! Applicants with previous agricultural experience will be prioritized, however all hardworking & motivated individuals will be considered. Our ideal candidates should be passionate about organic farming and food, enjoy physical labor in an outdoor environment, and enjoy working on a team. You will be working alongside farm managers and a small crew to help grow a diverse range of vegetable crops using sustainable agriculture techniques. If you want to spend the farm season working on and learning from one of the most experienced CSA farms in the region, then this is the job for you

Responsibilities

Farm crew members will participate in all aspects of vegetable production including: • Seeding • Transplanting • Harvesting & Packing • Weeding • Irrigating • Washing & Processing • The farm crew may also be trained to use small equipment including but not limited to a walk behind tiller, string trimmer and backpack flame weeder. • After gaining some experience, there may be additional opportunities to specialize.

 

47th Avenue Farm has been growing fresh, seasonal and sustainable produce year-round for CSA shareholders and restaurants since 1996. This kind of farming requires physical strength and stamina. Year-round vegetable production involves long days of repetitive work in all kinds of weather and can be challenging. We are looking for folks who are serious about farming and know from experience that they enjoy this kind of work and can commit to the entire farming season.

Qualifications

– A season of full time vegetable farming or equivalent experience

– Can commit to a full season (April/May-November)

– Able to perform manual labor in all weather conditions (including ability to lift up to 50lbs)

The crew works best when everyone is highly motivated, dedicated to the farm, and able to work quickly and efficiently both by themselves and cooperatively with other team members. The farm crew must be responsible, reliable and able to take initiative. It is also important that people be flexible and able to learn and adapt to new systems quickly. Attention to detail and the ability to keep accurate records is required. A good sense of humor and an appetite for local veggies comes in handy too!

Benefits

– $15.50 per hour

– 1 Whole CSA share ($1600 value) plus additional farm produce throughout the season

– Paid Time Off: 40 hours per year

– Unpaid Time Off: 40 hours from May - Nov. Flexible time off in the winter months Dec - April.
