Description
Shearing Assistant: an alpaca shearing assistant is responsible for helping the main shearer set up the shearing equipment, move animals to and from the shearing area, lift and lower animals down onto the shearing mat, and moving the animal from side to side during the shearing process. We live on the road and stay in hotels every night as we travel from south Florida to northern Maine over the course of four months.
Qualifications
Applicant must be able to comfortably lift 100 lbs. Experience with large animals is a huge plus, but not required. Being comfortable working with large animals is required. All other job specific skills can be taught on the job. A good attitude and willingness to work hard is a must.
Benefits
Pay is based on the number of animals and the number of stops. Currently, how the numbers stand, season pay for the 4 months of work (March through June) is standing around $25k.
Tips are split 50/50 between myself and the assistant
All food, lodging, and travel is provided. We drive around in a comfortable Toyota Tundra, and we stay at clean, safe hotels every night. Typically a quick breakfast, quick stop or make food for lunch, and then a more exciting sit down dinner is what to expect.
