Location:

Orchard Hill Organics is an intensive market garden operation located in Westchester County NY that currently serves 6 farmers markets throughout Westchester, NYC, and Putnam County.

 

Position Overview:

Orchard Hill Organics is seeking 2 motivated, full time employees to assist with farm development.  Applicants should expect to work closely with the Farm Manager to execute projects and meet production and harvest goals. At the discretion of the Farm Manager, the Assistant Farm Manager will manage projects as delegated but must also keep open communication.  Applicants can expect to job training and freedom to overseer aspects of production after an onboarding process.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible in all aspects of growing including; seeding, transplanting, harvesting, cultivation, pruning, and harvest post processing.
  • Act as team leader to oversee and delegate farm tasks to hourly employees and volunteers
  • Assist in improving farm soil heath and efficiency
  • Assist in the development of new farm plantings
  • Assist in greenhouse work to propagate new plants
  • Ensure irrigation system is maintained and running well
  • Assist in irrigating during the growing season
  • Assist in implementing seeding, transplanting, and harvesting schedules
  • Assist in development of new and established markets
  • Assist in the application of soil amendment and sprays
  • Assist in maintaining barn/shop/equipment
  • Safely operate and maintain farm machinery for mowing, hauling, tillage, etc.

Experience Requirements

Requirements:

  • Two full seasons working on farm
  • Demonstrated knowledge of farm infrastructure and equipment
  • Basic carpentry skills
  • Self-motivated, cooperative, and flexible
  • Experience operating 2 stroke engines and tractor operation
  • Demonstrated organizational and record keeping
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Experience leading a crew to achieve goals
