Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR), a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to equine welfare, seeks a full-time, live-in Farm Facilities Manager to oversee daily farm operations, including maintenance of barns, pastures, fencing, and equipment on our 58-acre property. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe, well-maintained environment, managing repairs, and coordinating with staff and volunteers. Candidates should have experience in farm or facilities management, basic carpentry and mechanical skills, and equine care.

Duties & Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repair
• Oversees building and ground maintenance.
• Perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks, such as fencing, electrical, plumbing, carpentry work, etc.
• Operates and maintains custodial functions. To include keeping all buildings, facilities and grounds clean, safe and orderly, including trash/recycling removal, cleaning of public facilities, landscaping, mowing, weeding, dragging, trimming and snow/ice removal.
• Assist in executing pasture management plan.
• Perform routine maintenance operations on general utilities.
• Keep all storage and shop areas clean, orderly and free of clutter.
• Maintain all farm vehicles, trailers, equipment and tools in clean and orderly fashion.
• Monitor all farm tools, equipment, trailers and vehicles for concerns, and address as needed, to ensure they are working properly and safely.
• Request repair, construction and supply needs that require purchasing.
• Assist with pest prevention and control.
• Ensures security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly.
Inventory
• Keep track of all equipment, tools and supplies, and request restocking as needed.
• Assist with offloading and restocking of all ordered goods and supplies.
• Perform farm-related errands and supply runs, as needed and assigned.
Projects/Events
• Prepare and submit prospective improvement projects and ideas to Operations Director for consideration and approval.
• Assist with event execution, including cleaning, setup, tear down and maintenance.
Overnight Duties – Main Facility
• Serve as farm security after business hours and notify appropriate management with any concerns, as needed.
• Assist with overnight care/monitoring of animals, as needed and assigned.
Volunteer/Public Interactions
• Coordinate Farm Operations Team (FOT) and group volunteers to ensure prompt project execution using safe and proper work procedures and practices.
• Manage FOT volunteer scheduling, assignments and appreciation on an ongoing and consistent basis.

Requirements
Qualifications/Training required:
• Experience operating equipment such as tractors, front end loaders, mowers, etc.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform maintenance and basic repairs on equipment, vehicles and tools.
• Basic construction experience.
• Some experience with fencing, plumbing, electrical and carpentry work.
• Must have own transportation.
• Must be dependable and punctual.
• Good communication, organization, management and prioritization skills
• Must pass a background and drug test.
Physical Activity Requirements:
• Physical ability to perform manual, sometimes demanding, labor to include:
o Walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, grasping, feeling, and lifting.
• Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Ability to determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
• Ability to make general observations and have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles, farm equipment (tractors, front end loaders, etc.), lawn equipment, etc.

• Ability to hear/listen and comprehended the receipt of detailed/complex information through oral communications.
• Ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.
Working Conditions:
• Scope of facilities include 58 acre farm with 40 acres of pasture, 2 barn buildings, 1 commercial building, 2 residential buildings, 17 run-in shelters and 5 sheds; a newly acquired adjacent 3 acre property with 2 commercial buildings and 3 sheds; and a 14 acre satellite facility with 1 barn building and 4 run-in shelters.
• Performance of duties to occur inside and outside.
• Working in temperatures below 32 degrees, above 100 degrees or in inclement weather for periods of more than one hour. Other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity, should be given consideration.
• Work environment is subject to sufficient noise to cause one to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. Subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, and water lines.
Time Required:
40+ hours/week (includes one weekend day and four weekdays). Present during emergency situations as needed, as well as all on-site events (set-up and tear-down included).
Training Required:
Training programs that apply to position or enhance job performance are available upon approval and some may be required.
