Description

Join our team! Applications are now open for the 2024 Farm Fellowship, which runs from April 29-October 5.

Fellows help to tend to the food forest, harvest and pack crops for donations to food pantries and mutual aid groups, and help to carry out community volunteer days. The fellowship focuses on experiential, hands-on learning, where fellows work alongside the farm’s senior staff, to learn how to efficiently carry out sustainable farming techniques at-scale.

Optional weekly classes are taught by the farm’s Project Manager to provide an opportunity for more in-depth learning for tasks learned in the field. Class topics include: farm/garden design, food forest design, irrigation system design, dynamic accumulator plants, tiny home design, off-grid photovoltaic systems, and more.

Fellows are paid $20/hr and the schedule is 24 hours a week. (Local fellows who live in the area can arrange a reduced work schedule, such as only working 1-2 days a week.) For fellows who live on-site, room and board is provided for free.

Farm or Business Description

Unadilla Community Farm is a 501c3 nonprofit farm education center in West Edmeston, NY, donating 100% of our produce to food pantries, mutual aid groups, and free herbal clinics, serving low-income and historically underserved communities through our Food Access and Herbal Aid Programs. Our staff help with the maintenance of 200+ varieties of crops, grown in a multi-story food forest model. We also engage the public through Community Volunteer Days throughout the season, to educate on topics such as plant propagation, dynamic accumulator plants, food forest design, and more.

Experience Requirements

Applicants must have 1 season of farming experience (at a production farm/nonprofit farm or other farm type), OR must have completed Unadilla Community Farm’s Permaculture Internship.

Benefits

This is a seasonal part-time contracted position. We don’t provide paid time off, but we are flexible if you need to take time off for sick leave or vacation, etc and ask for 2 weeks notice for vacation time off.

Fellows may commute to the farm, or apply to live on-site. For fellows who live on-site and can commit to the 24 hr/wk full-season schedule, room and board are provided at no charge.
