
Description
We seek a helper for 12-20 hours per week with very flexible scheduling. Evenings, school hours, typically no weekend hours.
$17-25 (depends on skills and experience)
Duties will include:
- Tractor mowing of fields and lanes
- Barn lot care and tending to small fold of Highland cattle and small flock of sheep
- General, light farm maintenance (gate repair, some fencing repair, painting)
- Farmsitting or managing farm while owners travel 7-10 times per year
- Potentially, lawn mow and care (equipment provided)
Skills- light livestock experience, basic handyman skills, flexibility in daily tasks, creative problem-solver
Farm or Business Description
We run a small pleasure farm with Highland cattle, Valais Blacknose sheep, chickens, flowers and veggies. We enjoy the work of running a small farm but would like to have some regular help that we can count on for maintenance and a third pair of hands.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a someone who can handle some of the regular around the farm tasks so that we have more flexibility.
Farm helper will help with tilling, row-making, setting up irrigation, animal care and farm maintenance.
We would love to have someone who could stay on-farm 7-10 times a year while we travel or could manage the farm and house sitter while we are traveling but we can work this out in a way that makes sense for the hire.
Experience Requirements
- Some animal experience (moving tame cattle, fly and parasite treatment, handling sheep with friendly, pet temperaments.)
- Basic repair and building skills to help maintain coops, fences, etc.
- Tractor, front-end loader and rear implement knowledge is helpful but can be trained.
- We are flexible about skills and experience as long as the hire has common sense, good instincts and is a creative problem-solver.
Benefits
We have some flexibility about using our space for your animals, i.e. keeping a horse, 4-H animal, etc. We have some stall space and pasture flexibility for the right person.
