Description

The Farm Manager is the main person to interact with our animals and be aware of all outdoor needs on our hobby farm.

Begins January 2023

Responsibilities

The Farm Manager is responsible for mucking out 2 stalls-used by 2 goats and 2 sheep every morning. Feed Goats and Sheep in the am and pm and also care of 7 hens in our hen house. This includes cleaning, feeding, watering and disposal of waste in compost area each morning and feeding goats and sheep in the pm. Also general farm chores as requested by owner.

This is a 7-10 hours a week commitment.

Owner is on-site and will assist with feeding and over-see general management of pet goats (Pygora Breed) and pet sheep (Babydoll Southdown Breed) The goats and sheep are pets first and we also use their wool and fiber from the animals for spinning into yarn and more.

Qualifications

Farm Manager must to responsible, a morning person, someone who doesn't mind getting dirty. Must love animals and be very even tempered.

Farm Manager will be a non-smoker, independent and reliable. Willing to be finger printed.

Farm Manager must be able to lift 25-50 pound bags of feed, hay and other farm aids as needed.

Must have reliable vehicle(for your own use for transportation to your day-job)

Must be able to leave at a moments notice if there is a fire in the canyon to help evacuate animals in their trailers to safety.

Employment in Topanga or near-by a preference.

Experience Requirements

Must have worked with goats and sheep in some capacity and have some general knowledge of farm life. Owner will train and work with Farm Manager as needed.

 

 

Educational Requirements

College degree is not a must, but welcome. Must have a high-school diploma, speak and understand English.

Vet-tech or Vet-school person could be ideal.

Skills

Cleaning stalls, raking leaves, moving farm supplies, helping owner with general chores which could include things like re-building goat beds, putting up and down pop-ups for events, working with outdoor garden, filling portable propane tanks, general knowledge of basic wood working.

Benefits

Farm Manager will have free rent and live in our well-maintained, 30 foot Pilgrim Trailer. Trailer has wifi, heat, AC, electricity, its own septic, water source, parking area and outdoor covered patio.

Farm Manager will have use of our 9 acre property for walking-hiking and use of wood shop as needed.

Farm Manager will have use of our laundry room and parking.
