Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Part-Time Farm Manager to oversee operations on our 1/4-acre pesticide-free farm. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sustainable agriculture and a passion for maintaining a healthy, chemical-free environment. The Farm Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day farm activities, ensuring the health and productivity of crops, and supporting our mission of providing fresh, pesticide-free produce to the community.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of crops using sustainable, pesticide-free methods.
Develop and implement crop rotation plans and other sustainable farming practices to maintain soil health and productivity.
Monitor and manage irrigation systems to ensure efficient water use and crop health.
Utilize integrated pest management (IPM) techniques to address pest and disease issues without synthetic chemicals.
Supervise part-time farmhands and volunteers, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to pesticide-free practices.
Train staff and volunteers in sustainable farming techniques and safety protocols.
Coordinate work schedules and delegate tasks to ensure efficient farm operations.
Maintain farm equipment and tools, ensuring they are clean, safe, and in good working condition.
Perform general farm maintenance tasks, including repairing fences, maintaining pathways, and ensuring a clean and organized work environment.
Maintain accurate records of farm activities, including planting schedules, harvest yields, and pest management practices.
Ensure compliance with all regulations and standards related to pesticide-free farming.
Educate visitors, volunteers, and community members about sustainable and pesticide-free farming practices.
Participate in community events and outreach programs to promote the benefits of sustainable agriculture and the farm's mission.
Qualifications
Proven experience in farm management or similar roles, preferably in sustainable or organic farming.
Knowledge of pesticide-free and sustainable farming practices.
Ability to operate and maintain farm equipment safely and efficiently.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
Passion for sustainable agriculture and commitment to maintaining a pesticide-free environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
Capability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
