Description
Apprentice will learn both ranching and farming. Farming operations include field crops, high tunnel systems, greenhouse systems, orchards as well as pasture management and restoration. Livestock operations include beef cattle, dairy cattle, yak, llamas, hogs, sheep and poultry. Apprentice will also learn the business side of farming including direct sales, wholesale sales and Farmer's Markets.
Farm or Business Description
Serendipity Farmstead is a regenerative farm/ranch growing everything from oranges to greens. Our livestock/poultry operations involve rotational practices for both soil health and parasite/pest control. We grow in fields, small orchards, high tunnel and a tropical greenhouse complete with aquaponics systems.
Responsibilities
You will learn and participate in every facet of the farm operations - crop planning to harvest, livestock care and breeding schedules, poultry management schedules, sales, accounting and Farmer's Markets. You will be the lead person on morning and evening shores and participate in farm construction projects and repairs.
Qualifications
Must have a desire to embrace the farming culture and work ethic. Must have love of animals and be ever cognizant of their welfare. We also work in all kinds of weather, though we are smart enough to avoid projects in the high heat of the day and the bitter days of winter. You must be able to work on your feet all days and lift and carry 80 lbs. A valid driver's license is also required.
Experience Requirements
We expect some prior experience with crops and/or livestock operations on a farm or ranch.
Educational Requirements
High school graduation or equivalent.
Skills
Animal care, growing, machinery repair, construction, electrical, plumbing are all welcomed skills.
