This is a full time/live in job only.

Applicant must be ok with working variable days, possible weeks in a row with out days off. Owners live on property full time. This position does not have every weekend off, nor do days off always fall on a weekend. However, when working weeks in a row, there will be days when the only work is to feed the animals.

A qualified applicant will be respectful of apartment, ranch property, animals, other employees and visitors at all times. Trust and dependability is the crux of this position.

A qualified applicant must be able to lift 50lb feed bags and bales of hay regularly. The applicant must be reliable, dependable, and have a good attitude towards the job. The applicant must enjoy animals (horses, goats, chickens, burros) and caring for them in all aspects. This applicant will respect the manner in which the owner directs care to be done.

A qualified applicant should be able to work the same when owners are on the ranch as well as when they are off the ranch. The applicant should be flexible with changes no matter how frequent. The applicant should be able to stay on job tasks, despite distractions, and be a self starter.

As this is a Live In position, a qualified candidate will live in a manner that is acceptable to Owners. Illegal drug use, or abuse of any substance is not permitted.

This position suits the following situations well: Individuals getting on their feet and need stable employment and consistent pay. Couples without children who are saving up and need included housing - due to compensation, this works best if one person also works outside the ranch.

RESPONSIBILITIES

General duties include:

  • Animal Management: Feed, clean and care for horses, chickens and dogs. Ride and exercise horses as needed. Saddle horses for riding. Purchase animal food, schedule vet and farrier.
  • Property management: Maintain buildings (handyman work and scheduling vendors for larger issues), maintain trails, cut trees as needed, remove snow in the winter.
  • Operate and maintain machinery: Operate plow, tractor, and other machines on the property as needed for work. Maintain recreational vehicles for the owners. Maintain cars for the owners.
  • Gardening/ landscaping - mow lawns and pastures as needed, keep ornamental gardens in good condition. Drag pastures.
  • Fence building and management
  • Manage all aspects of winter care
  • Communicate regularly and often with owners; Additional duties will be added and modified. This is not a horse back riding position.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Clean Drivers License a must

High School Diploma or Equivalent a must

Ability to work and live in the US a must

Must be able to lift 50lb feed bags and hay bales regularly

Horse experience and property management experience

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Experience with field irrigation a plus

Experience with machinery maintenance (small machine repair, etc)

General handyman/ construction/ carpentry a bonus

 

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or Equivalent a must

SKILLS

Experience with horses

Self Starter

Ability to work alone as well as with others on projects

Experience with snow removal

Experience with tractors

BENEFITS

Pay will be determined by experience and skills. Small 1bd/1ba apartment  with utilities paid is included and is part of compensation. This position is not suited for a family as the apartment is small and not childproof. Apartment pets must be approved - max 2 approved pets allowed. No applicant ranch animals at this time.
